Frequently Asked Question

Is the uploading service free of charge?
Signing up and uploading files is free of charge.
Where can I find the STATSPACK files ?
STATSPACK is supported by Oracle Corporation starting version 8.1.6. The files can be found in the directory $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin. Start with reading the file statspack.doc.
Oraperf keeps telling me that the timed statistics is off when it is really on !
The problem is most likely with 8.1.7 statspack files that have been changed since the 8.1.6 release. Or you have made your changes to the script.
A workaround could be to remove the Timeout column in the sections "Wait Events for DB:" and "Background Wait Events for DB: ".
When uploading a file, an Oracle error is reported. Where does it come from?
The Oracle errors that are reported by the analyzer come from the input file and point to an error while that file was generated. So check you input file and may be remove the error and try again.
I have been trying to upload a file and it takes forever to upload and the output never comes back.
The problem could be related to firewall configuration issues on your site.
How long should my timing interval be ?
Depends on what you want to do. If you want to find and solve performance problems, you should use small intervals (5 to 15 minutes). If you just want to monitor and not solve performance problems use 30 minutes or longer. The problem is that with a longer timing interval the numbers will basically be averaged out over the timing period. So the longer the period, the less usefull it becomes to find peak numbers and find a performance problem
After I upload a file, how long should it take before I see it in my list of upload?
In principle the files should be seen immediately. However currently the files are processed and stored on a different system as the where the website is running. That means that the uploaded files will not show up right away but will be uploaded once a month.
Are there security risks?
Because this analyzer takes files as input, it is not directly connected to your database. In the standard scripts (utlbstat/utlestat and statspack) there is no username/password information, so that doesn't end up in the files either. Uploading the file is using standard browser technology and isn't dependent on any information/tool developed by Oraperf.com. So there is no security risk. If you want more control over the content, you could consider generating a XML file based on the format that OraPerf.com is expecting. Look in the Reference section for more information.
